Programmes: Background

Structure

The Institute for Continuing Education (IVPV) provides 2 kinds of courses:

Horizontal trainings:

These training programmes are aimed at all interested people from the industrial sector, the services sector, the public sector and education, regardless of their specialization.

Some examples:

Vertical trainings:

These trainings are aimed in the first place at specific sectors or parts of the industry.

Some examples:

Some training programmes are organized by an interuniversity consortium of the 4 Flemish universities (UGent, KULeuven, VUB, UA). One member of the consortium then takes care of the logistic co-ordination.

Typical example: the interuniversity IT training programme (in English) where the IVPV of the Ghent University acts as the initiator and coordinator.

  • Edition 1998-2000: the courses were given at one of the four universities (2 evenings/week) and were transmitted via videoconferencing to the other 3 universities and many companies in Flanders and abroad.
  • Edition 2000-2001: the courses contained videoconferencing, CDs with streaming video recordings of lectures, computer exercises and Web discussions.
  • Edition 2001-2003

All training sessions are submitted to a thorough evaluation, both in terms of content and form. In addition, the use of new techniques with respect to distance learning is evaluated according to strictly scientific methods.

For more information on the current training programmes see the list of courses.
